It is clearly seen that wireless data traffic has continued to drive growth due to the enhancement of internet-connected mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets and machine to machine communications in an exponential manner. This situation forced the network operators to increase the coverage, capacity of their networks and data rate in cellular wireless networks. Long Term Evolution is all about fulfilling these requirements.

Long Term Evolution, abbreviatedly LTE, represents a standard for 4th generation (4G) mobile broadband that delivers the fastest mobile Internet experience. It is also termed as MAGIC – Mobile multimedia, Anytime anywhere, Global mobility support and Customized Personal service. It provides web access from downloading high quality audio to high definition videos without interruption.

LTE allows operators to use wider spectrum and provides higher data rates and lower latency when compared to 3G networks. To improve spectral efficiency, LTE does not offer different thing than the previous systems. It’s doing the most important thing to improve system performance is using wider bandwidths if the spectrum is available. According to calculations using mathematical models, an uplink speed of up to 50 Mbps and a downlink speed of up to 100 Mbps for 4G, whereas an uplink speed of up to 5.7 Mbps and a downlink speed of up to 14 Mbps for 3G. It is obvious that 4G provides a fast connection when uploading large documents and communicating via the Internet.
